President Bola Tinubu has asked Nigeria LNG Limited to put more focus on cutting gas flaring and making Nigeria’s gas reserves useful to households and businesses at home.

Tinubu gave the charge when he received NLNG board members led by the company’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Adeleye Falade, at the State House in Abuja. The meeting centred on reducing waste from gas flaring, improving domestic gas use and turning Nigeria’s gas resources into wider economic benefits.

The President said the country should not only chase revenue from international gas demand, but also make sure Nigerians feel the value of the resource through energy access and pricing that supports domestic consumers.

The reports said Tinubu described gas flaring as an environmental liability that could be converted into economic value if properly captured and used. Channels Television also reported the policy direction as part of a wider push to move Nigeria from wasted gas to local energy and wealth creation.

NLNG has been central to Nigeria’s gas export business, but the latest message from the Presidency places more weight on domestic use, lower flaring and the practical benefits of gas for ordinary consumers.
