Domestic crude oil deliveries to Nigerian refineries fell by 6.3 per cent in September to 15.97 million barrels, down from 17.05 million barrels in August, according to figures attributed to the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority.

Average daily petrol supply also declined, falling 23.4 per cent to 38.7 million litres from 50.5 million litres in August. The figures cover supply from domestic refineries and imports, rather than petrol consumption.

Vanguard reported the figures from the regulator’s September 2026 Midstream and Downstream Report, released on Thursday. The report linked the reduction in petrol receipts to lower domestic supply and reduced imports as approved import permit volumes were being exhausted.

Refineries received a combined 156.51 million barrels of crude between January and September, made up of 125.85 million barrels sourced domestically and 30.66 million barrels imported. Domestic crude accounted for 80.4 per cent of that intake, compared with 19.6 per cent from imports.

The report put Dangote Refinery’s utilisation at 105.98 per cent in September. It said the refinery processed approximately 689,000 barrels per day while receiving an average of 618,000 barrels per day, drawing the difference of about 71,000 barrels per day from its inventory.

Domestic refineries remained the larger source of petrol despite the decline, supplying approximately 73.6 per cent of September receipts. Imports accounted for the remaining 26.4 per cent.

September’s daily petrol supply was below the 13-month average of 49.7 million litres recorded between September 2025 and September 2026. Over that period, domestic refineries supplied an average of 30.4 million litres per day, while imports contributed 19.3 million litres.

For September itself, the report said domestic petrol supply was 21 per cent below August’s level, while imports fell by 30 per cent.
