President Bola Tinubu has commissioned the Zaria–Kano section of the Abuja–Kaduna–Zaria–Kano Expressway, with Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf representing him at the ceremony.
The completed stretch is Section III of the highway. The commissioning took place on Wednesday, October 21, according to Premium Times.
The opening does not mean the entire expressway has been completed. Premium Times reported that the Abuja–Kaduna section remained under construction, while the Kaduna–Zaria section had been completed.
Delivering the president’s address, Yusuf said the corridor was important to Kano’s role as a commercial hub serving northern states. He said better roads would help farmers reach markets and support transport operators and small businesses.
A statement by Sunusi Tofa, the Director General of Media and Publicity at Kano Government House, said the improved route was expected to reduce travel delays and vehicle operating costs and ease the movement of agricultural produce and manufactured goods.
The state government also said improved road conditions should reduce hazards caused by damaged surfaces.
Yusuf called for continued federal investment in road construction and rehabilitation in Kano. The state government urged motorists using the completed section to obey speed limits, avoid dangerous overtaking and comply with traffic regulations.
