President Bola Tinubu says new Nigerian Army formations in Zamfara, Kebbi, Oyo and Osun will bring troops closer to vulnerable communities and improve the military’s response to security threats.

In a statement shared on Sunday, Tinubu said the Army had made the formations operational during the week. He presented the deployments alongside barracks construction and military pay measures as steps to support the Armed Forces.

The President said construction of new barracks and depots was being accelerated in Abuja, Ekiti, Ebonyi and Kogi, while the facilities in Osun had been completed. He linked the projects to support for service personnel and their families.

“As we demand more from our men and women in uniform, we must do more to support them and their families,” Tinubu said.

Tinubu also said personnel had told him the recent pay increase was making a difference to their households. He did not give the amount of the increase in the statement quoted by Punch and Daily Post.

The Army had earlier announced three new infantry battalions in Bakura, Kaura Namoda and Anka in Zamfara, as reported here.

Tinubu said his responsibility as Commander-in-Chief was to ensure troops had the resources and support to carry out their duties, while recognising the sacrifices made by their families.
