TCN Restores Benin-Egbin Line After Grid Disturbance Disrupts Lagos Power

The Transmission Company of Nigeria says it has restored the Benin-Egbin 330kV transmission line after a grid disturbance disrupted electricity supply across Lagos and nearby areas.

Daily Post reported that the disruption followed a sudden voltage fluctuation on the national grid around 8:19 a.m. on Thursday.

Vanguard reported that the Benin-Egbin line had been restored, while work was still ongoing on the Benin-Omotoso 330kV transmission line.

TCN said the disturbance affected the Lagos power network and required emergency response from grid operators.

The company said the restoration of the Benin-Egbin line helped stabilise supply to the affected corridor.

The Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, held an emergency meeting with TCN and the Nigerian Independent System Operator after the incident, according to the Daily Post account.

The outage adds to continuing concerns about the reliability of Nigeria’s power transmission system and the pressure on Lagos electricity supply.
