Landlords’ associations in Ushafa, Dutse and Kubwa are planning a protest on Monday if prolonged power outages in their communities continue, Daily Post reported.

Residents interviewed by the newspaper or posting complaints online said the outages had disrupted businesses, water supply and household activities in parts of Abuja.

Fatima Muhammad, a Kubwa resident who runs a baking business, told Daily Post she could not power her water pump and that some baked products had spoilt. She said the interruption had caused financial losses.

The complaints describe different durations and locations. One Dutse resident reported two days without electricity, while an Area 8, Garki, resident said her area had been without supply for three weeks.

Abuja Electricity Distribution Company said on Friday that a technical fault on the Transmission Company of Nigeria’s 330kV Shiroro-Katampe line was disrupting supply.

AEDC listed Garki, parts of Apo, Asokoro, Wuse Zones 1 and 2, Wuye, Jabi, Utako, Jahi, Life Camp, Gwarinpa, Kubwa, Dawaki, Dutse, Dei-Dei and Suleja among affected areas. It said TCN’s technical team was working to clear the fault and restore supply.

Daily Post also cited a Wednesday TCN notice announcing a planned interruption for maintenance at the 132/33kV Kubwa Substation. That notice covered Kubwa, Bwari, Army Resettlement, parts of Dutse Alhaji and adjoining areas.

AEDC said supply would return to affected areas once the transmission line was cleared.
