TCN Announces Planned Blackout In Kano, Katsina, Jigawa, Bauchi And Yobe

The Transmission Company of Nigeria has announced a planned electricity disruption in parts of Kano, Katsina, Jigawa, Bauchi and Yobe states, as well as Gazaoua in Niger Republic.

Daily Post and Channels TV reported that TCN spokesperson Ndidi Mbah disclosed the planned outage in a statement on Saturday.

The company said the disruption is linked to maintenance at the Kumbotos 330 kilovolt transmission substation scheduled for Sunday.

According to TCN, the work will allow its contractor to continue the upgrade of 330kV bus II jumpers and replace existing 350mm² conductors with 800mm² conductors.

The company said the upgrade is meant to strengthen the transmission network and improve power reliability after the maintenance is completed.

TCN said the outage will affect customers served by Kano Electricity Distribution Company, parts of Jos Electricity Distribution Company and Yola Electricity Distribution Company.

The affected locations listed by the company include Kano, Katsina and Jigawa states, Azare in Bauchi State, Nguru in Yobe State, and Gazaoua in Niger Republic.

Channels TV reported the same affected areas and said KEDCO, JEDC and YEDC would be unable to off-take power for distribution to customers during the maintenance window.

Daily Post reported that the work is part of an ongoing upgrade at the transmission substation, not an emergency fault on the grid.

The company did not give a separate restoration timetable in the reports beyond the scheduled Sunday maintenance window.

The planned disruption is separate from the earlier Benin-Egbin line incident that affected Lagos power supply and was restored by TCN on June 26.
