Lecturers at Taraba State University have declared an indefinite strike from Monday, October 12, over a disputed pay agreement and salary arrears.

The university’s branch of the Academic Staff Union of Universities announced the action in a statement by its chairman, Joshua Garba Mbave, reported by Daily Post. The union says the Taraba State Government has not implemented the 2025 Federal Government-ASUU remuneration agreement or paid accrued salary arrears from January 2026.

Mbave said the union had been engaging the state government since February. Those talks led to a verification committee tasked with examining the existing salary structure and implementation of the agreement across the North-East.

He said the committee completed its assignment and submitted its report on September 24. The union had postponed planned industrial action after the government requested more time through the Office of the Head of Civil Service.

NaijaTrend previously reported the branch’s 14-day ultimatum in August here.

Mbave said the union remained open to talks but wanted a definite resolution, implementation of the pay framework and payment of the arrears.
