Six Oyo Reps Defect From PDP to APM in Show of Solidarity With Makinde

Six members of the House of Representatives from Oyo State have defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), in a show of solidarity with Governor Seyi Makinde.

Speaker Tajudeen Abbas read letters notifying the House of the change in party affiliation during plenary on Tuesday.

The lawmakers who defected are:

• Anthony Adebayo Adepoju (Ibarapa North)
• Adedeji Stanley Olajide (Ibadan North-West/Ibadan South-West)
• Makanjuola Sunday Ojo (Ogo-Oluwa/Surulere)
• Najimdeen Oyeshina Oyedeji (Iseyin/Itesiwaju/Kajola/Iwajowa)
• Folajimi Oyekunle (Ibadan North)
• Abass Adekunle Adigun (Ibadan North-East/Ibadan South-East)

The mass defection follows Governor Makinde’s decision to leave the PDP for the APM several weeks ago. Makinde has since been ratified as the APM’s presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections.

The move deals a significant blow to the PDP in Oyo State, stripping the party of its House of Representatives members in the state. The APM, previously considered a fringe party, now gains substantial federal representation from the state.

Meanwhile, in the same plenary session, Minority Leader Kingsley Chinda also defected from the PDP to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and resigned his position as Minority Leader. Chinda recently secured the APC governorship ticket for Rivers State ahead of the 2027 elections.
