Seven Killed As Windstorm Hits 120 Communities In Jigawa

Seven people have died after windstorms hit 120 communities across 13 local government areas of Jigawa State.

The State Emergency Relief Management Agency said 5,403 people were affected by the storms, which struck at the beginning of the rainy season and damaged homes and public infrastructure.

SEMA Executive Secretary Hannafi Yakubu told journalists in Dutse that about 50 schools and health facilities were damaged, along with two police stations.

Yakubu said the state had not yet recorded widespread flooding, but the windstorm damage was already severe. He said SEMA was working with the National Emergency Management Agency to assess the destruction and coordinate response efforts.

He appealed to the Federal Government, local government councils, development partners, humanitarian groups, companies and individuals to support affected communities.
