Security Forces Rescue 15 NYSC Members, Six Others In Kogi

Fifteen National Youth Service Corps members and six other abducted people have been rescued in Kogi State, days after families raised fresh concern over the victims’ captivity.

The 21 people were rescued on Monday by a combined security team in Dekina Local Government Area. The case follows NaijaTrend’s earlier report here on disputed rescue claims and ransom demands linked to the same abduction.

President Bola Tinubu said the rescued group comprised eight males and 13 females. He said the operation involved the military, the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services and local vigilantes, and that the victims were receiving medical attention before reuniting with their families.

The Kogi State Government said troops of the 12 Brigade, police officers, DSS personnel, local hunters and vigilante groups carried out the operation after reports of abductions along the Alloma-Ejule-Itobe road axis.

According to the state government, the security teams searched the Egume and Ochaja forest areas and rescued all 21 victims. One male victim who sustained a gunshot wound was taken to a medical facility.

The abducted corps members were believed to be members of the 2026 Batch B Stream II and had reportedly finished orientation camp activities before their journey. Kogi Governor Usman Ododo commended the security agencies and urged residents to keep giving timely information to authorities.
