Russian Embassy Disputes Claim Nigerian Student Died From Airstrike
The Russian Embassy in Nigeria has disputed reports that Nigerian medical graduate Nnani Adaobi Marian died as a result of a Russian military strike in Kharkiv, Ukraine.
The embassy said there was no confirmed information yet on whose actions caused her death, while also sending condolences to her family and friends.
The response is a new development after NaijaTrend earlier reported here that the 23-year-old final-year student of Kharkiv National Medical University died after injuries linked to a June 29 strike in Kharkiv.
Vanguard reported that the embassy said it had taken note of Nigerian newspaper reports on her death and objected to conclusions tying the incident directly to Russian military action.
Daily Post also reported the embassy’s statement, which said the mission was aware of reports in several Nigerian newspapers and was expressing condolences over what it called an irreparable loss.
The embassy’s position does not change the earlier confirmed fact that Marian died after being injured in Kharkiv. It introduces a dispute over responsibility for the strike and the exact cause of the fatal injuries.
