Presidency Attacks Atiku Over Fuel Subsidy Pledge

The Presidency has criticised Atiku Abubakar after he said he would consider restoring petrol subsidy if elected president in 2027.
Sunday Dare, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication, said the pledge was misleading and accused the former vice president of trying to use the subsidy issue for political advantage.
The response turns Atiku’s subsidy promise into a fresh campaign flashpoint, with the Tinubu administration defending the removal policy as part of its economic programme.
Daily Post reported that the Presidency described the promise as hypocrisy and deceit. Punch reported that Dare said reversing the policy could undermine what the administration calls an ongoing economic recovery.
Atiku’s comments came in the buildup to the 2027 election season, where fuel prices and the cost of living are expected to remain major campaign issues.
