Police Say Suspected IED Found At New Bussa General Hospital In Niger
Police in Niger State say a suspected improvised explosive device was found within the premises of the General Hospital in New Bussa, Borgu Local Government Area.
The device was reportedly discovered on Wednesday, September 9, at about 11:20 a.m. Reports said a security worker at the hospital noticed it and alerted security operatives.
The Niger State Police Command said its Explosive Ordnance Disposal team was deployed after receiving the information. Police spokesperson Wasiu Abiodun said the operatives rendered the device safe, swept the hospital premises and restored calm in the area.
The reports did not give a casualty figure, and there was no indication that the device detonated. Police urged residents to remain alert and report suspicious objects or movements to security agencies.
The incident is sensitive because it happened at a health facility, where panic could spread quickly even without an explosion. For now, the police account is that the device was safely handled.
