The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has deployed Deputy Inspector-General Shehu Nadada and two commissioners of police to Imo State to strengthen the search for abducted prospective corps members and other passengers.

Nadada, who heads police operations, assessed the rescue efforts and reviewed personnel, equipment and operational plans after arriving in the state. Police said additional tactical teams and resources had been sent to identified locations.

Force spokesperson CSP Anietie Iniedu announced the deployment in a statement issued on Friday. The operation concerns the abduction of 20 prospective National Youth Service Corps members and other passengers near Umunoha on the Owerri-Onitsha Road on Thursday, October 1.

NaijaTrend earlier reported the abduction here. The latest police statement described the search and deployment but did not give an updated number of people still in captivity.

The assessment involved Imo Commissioner of Police Audu Garba Bosso, Federal Operations Commissioner Akpan Anifiok, the commissioner in charge of the Police Mobile Force, other service commanders and the state command’s management team.

Iniedu said the operation was being supported by intelligence-led tracking of the abductors and coordination with other security agencies. Nadada issued further directives after reviewing the response.

Nadada said police would sustain the operation until the abducted persons were safely rescued, according to the statement. He urged residents and the media to remain calm and vigilant.

Anyone with credible information that could help the search was asked to contact the police or the nearest security formation. Police said information would be treated confidentially and further updates would be issued as the operation progressed.
