Gunmen abduct 20 corps members on Owerri-Onitsha Road
Gunmen have abducted 20 corps members along the Owerri-Onitsha Road in Imo State, police in the state said.
The corps members were travelling in a commercial bus from Ibadan, Oyo State, to orientation camps in the South-East and South-South when they were intercepted near Umunoha community in Mbaitoli Local Government Area, according to Channels TV.
Imo police spokesperson Henry Okoye said Commissioner of Police Audu Bosso visited the scene for an assessment after the report. He said police and other security agencies had intensified efforts to rescue the victims.
Okoye said operatives were combing nearby bushes and that a Rapid Response Team had been deployed to track the kidnappers and secure the corps members’ release.
