Police Say Court Order Stopped PFIPC Figure From Appearing Before Reps

The Nigeria Police Force has told a House of Representatives committee that Adeniyi Adeyemi could not be brought before lawmakers because he is being held under a court order.

Adeyemi, who identified himself as director-general of the disputed Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council, had been ordered to appear before the committee within 48 hours in an earlier report here.

Punch and Vanguard reported that the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, sent the explanation through senior police officers who appeared before the panel on Wednesday. Daily Post also reported the police explanation from the resumed hearing.

According to the reports, the police said Adeyemi remains in custody over an ongoing criminal investigation and would need a production warrant or other court order before he could be brought to the National Assembly.

Committee chairman Yusuf Gagdi read the police correspondence publicly and said the lawmakers would not interfere with the ongoing police and court processes.
