Police Arrest Two Suspects Over Killing Of Kano Political Commentator
Police in Kano have arrested two suspects after the killing of political commentator Ibrahim Khalil Dan Shagamu at his home in Gaida Quarters, Kumbotso Local Government Area.
The state police command said officers responded after a distress call late on Monday night and found that attackers had forced their way into the commentator’s residence. He was taken to Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital, where doctors confirmed him dead on arrival.
The command said the suspects were picked up after an operation involving the Kumbotso divisional police, tactical units and community stakeholders. Police said forensic work and witness statements were still being used to establish the motive and identify any other people involved.
Dan Shagamu was known for social and political commentary online. His killing drew public criticism from political figures and rights advocates, who called for a full investigation and protection for citizens who speak publicly on political issues.
Daily Trust reported that family members said he was 54, had a wife and six children, and had earlier raised concerns about threats to his life. The police said efforts to arrest other possible accomplices were continuing.
