Imo police have arrested two suspects after a police inspector was killed while guarding the residence of the state Commissioner for Trade, Commerce and Investment, Rex Anunobi, in Owerri.

The slain officer was identified as Inspector Henry Effiong. Police said the attack happened on Monday morning and that the matter has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigations Department for further investigation.

Daily Post reported that Olivia Patrick, 31, and ThankGod Maurice, 25, were arrested at the scene shortly after the incident was reported. Premium Times said armed men first disarmed the inspector and took his rifle and phones before killing him.

Police spokesperson Henry Okoye said investigators visited the scene, recovered exhibits and deposited the officer’s remains at the mortuary. The command said efforts were still under way to arrest other suspects and prosecute anyone found culpable.
