Police have arrested a major suspect after vandals stripped parts from six Transmission Company of Nigeria towers on the Yola-Jalingo 330kV line.

TCN said its engineers discovered the damage during a routine patrol on July 29. The affected towers were listed as T995, T998, T999, T1002, T1003 and T1004.

The company said the vandals removed critical bracing members and stole about 130 tower components, leaving the structures at risk. TCN then carried out a joint operation with the Nigeria Police on July 30, working with community leaders and youths in the host area.

Daily Post and Punch both reported that police informed TCN on August 1 that a principal suspect had been arrested and some stolen materials recovered. The company said its officials later visited the police station to identify the recovered items.

The vandalism points again to the pressure on Nigeria’s power infrastructure, where attacks on towers can threaten supply and delay repair work. TCN said it was working with security agencies and local communities to protect the line and recover the remaining stolen components.
