Police in Ogun State have arrested a 36-year-old man, Shobande Taofeek, over alleged theft and vandalism of railway infrastructure in Arigbajo, saying they recovered 16 railway iron rods and two gas cylinders.
The arrest took place on Friday, October 23, following intelligence about missing railway materials. The command announced it in a statement on Sunday through its spokesperson, Oluseyi Babaseyi.
According to the police account, officers from the Special Weapons and Tactics unit increased surveillance and patrols in the area before arresting the suspect. He then led them to an uncompleted building where the items were recovered, the statement said.
The command also alleged that preliminary questioning linked the suspect to similar offences on three previous occasions. That account remains a police allegation, not a court finding.
Police said the investigation was continuing to establish the full circumstances, trace other people suspected of involvement and recover any further stolen property.
Commissioner of Police Bode Ojajuni urged residents to provide timely information that could help officers protect public infrastructure and prevent crime.
