Police have confirmed the arrest of an Accord Party lawmaker and 146 suspected political thugs in Ikire, Irewole Local Government Area of Osun State.

The arrests came during election-day security operations. The police said the lawmaker was held in the early hours of Saturday alongside the group, who were alleged to have been brought into the state for the governorship election.

Premium Times identified the lawmaker as Abiola Inaolaji, while Daily Post identified him as Abiola Ibrahim. Both reports said he represents Irewole/Isokan State Constituency in the Osun State House of Assembly and linked the arrest to a police operation involving federal tactical officers.

The police spokesperson, Abiodun Ojelabi, said the arrests were part of efforts to stop actions that could affect the credibility of the election. Daily Post reported that the lawmaker denied hiring the group, saying they were voters who had come to take part in the poll.

The claims against those arrested remain allegations. Police had not announced charges at the time of the reports.
