Police alert formations over planned attacks on worship centres, schools and NYSC camps
The Nigeria Police Force has placed formations on alert after intelligence suggested possible coordinated attacks on worship centres, schools, NYSC orientation camps and other vulnerable locations.
Police commands and formations were directed to increase surveillance, patrols, stop-and-search operations, access control and rapid response around the listed targets.
Premium Times reported that the warning was contained in a wireless message dated September 13 and issued by the Force Department of Operations in Abuja. The message was circulated to assistant inspectors general of police in Zones 1 to 17, commissioners of police, mobile police units and other specialised formations.
Daily Post also reported the alert, saying the high command cited increased mobilisation by terrorist elements and intelligence on the movement of armed groups from Katsina through Kaduna towards Plateau State.
The alert listed parts of the North-east, North-west, North-central and South-west as areas of concern. It comes amid continuing security pressure from banditry, insurgency, communal clashes and resource-related violence in several parts of the country.
