Fresh Plateau Attacks Leave Outlets Reporting Different Death Tolls
Fresh attacks in Plateau State have left at least nine people dead, with one account putting the toll at 12 as affected communities in Barkin Ladi, Riyom and Mangu face renewed tension.
The victims include passengers attacked while travelling from Gana-Ropp and a pastor killed on his way to church. Because the casualty figures differ across reports, NaijaTrend is reporting the range rather than merging the numbers.
Punch reported that at least nine people were killed between Saturday night and Sunday morning. It said five passengers were attacked while travelling to Gana-Ropp in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, while two others, including a pastor, were killed at Dorowa Babuje on Sunday morning.
Daily Trust reported a higher toll of at least 12 across Barkin Ladi, Riyom and Mangu. It said five people died in the passenger attack and added that other killings were recorded in nearby communities, with security personnel deployed to restore order.
Community leaders quoted in the reports called for the attackers to be arrested and said residents were under pressure as women and children left some affected areas. The reports did not include a fresh police casualty statement at the time of publication.
