Osun Commissioner Released After Detention Over Ilesa Rally Shooting
Osun State Commissioner for Environment and Sanitation, Mayowa Adejoorin, has been released by police after spending almost 24 hours in detention over a shooting incident linked to an APC rally in Ilesa.
The release is a new turn in the case NaijaTrend earlier reported here, after police arrested Adejoorin following violence around the Isokun area of Ilesa.
Punch reported that the commissioner was freed on Sunday after his arrest on Saturday. The paper said three people were injured in the shooting, including a 14-year-old boy identified as Tobi Ilesanmi, who was said to have been shot near the scene.
Vanguard also reported the release and said Osun police spokesperson Abiodun Ojelabi confirmed that Adejoorin had been released on bail. Ojelabi said he was yet to clear the situation of an Amotekun operative arrested alongside the commissioner.
Police had earlier said officers moved to the scene after the shooting was reported and recovered expended cartridges and Amotekun caps. Ojelabi said Adejoorin was stopped at the scene in a vehicle with an Amotekun personnel allegedly linked to the incident.
The shooting has deepened political tension in Osun ahead of the state election season, with the APC and Accord Party giving rival accounts of what happened around the rally. Police said the matter remained under investigation.
