Osun approves joint security task force over terror threats

Osun State has approved a joint security task force after recent security alerts, with the government saying the new team will strengthen response to threats across the state.

The decision was taken at a State Security Council meeting convened by Governor Ademola Adeleke and presided over by Deputy Governor Kola Adewusi. The newly deployed Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Zungura, attended the meeting with other security commanders.

Channels TV and Punch reported that the state government pledged to provide logistics for the task force and improve protection of lives and property. The Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, announced the decision in a statement on Thursday.

Adewusi commended the security commanders for their work during recent security challenges and urged them to stay alert in the face of fresh threats. The meeting was also attended by Attorney General Wole Jimi-Bada, Head of Service Ayanleye Aina, and the governor’s Special Adviser on Security, Samuel Ojo.

The approval follows weeks of heightened concern around security alerts in parts of the South-West. The state government did not announce a start date for the task force, but said it was ready to support its take-off.
