NUPRC Unions Suspend Nationwide Strike After 12 Hours, Normal Operations Resume
Workers of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) have suspended the nationwide strike they began on Monday, following successful negotiations with management.
The industrial action, led by the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) and the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG), was called off on the night of June 1, about 12 hours after it began.
NUPRC Head of Media and Corporate Communications, Eniola Akinkuotu, confirmed that normal operations had resumed at the commission.
According to Akinkuotu, the strike affected only administrative operations, while regulatory activities at oil and gas facilities continued uninterrupted throughout the period.
“The commission calls on members of the public to disregard false reports of disruptions to crude oil production, as well as misleading publications suggesting that the disagreement was centred on foreign training,” Akinkuotu said.
The strike had been called over alleged non-implementation of welfare packages for staff.
