NRC, NSCDC Foil Railway Vandalism Attempt In Osun
The Nigerian Railway Corporation and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps have stopped an attempt to vandalise railway track materials at the siding serving the Dangote Steel Rolling Mills in Osogbo, Osun State.
The agencies recovered nine oxygen gas cylinders allegedly brought to the site for the operation. The railway materials and surrounding area were secured after the suspected vandals fled when security operatives arrived.
The incident was reported on Friday, August 28, to the NRC’s Principal Track Officer in Osogbo. The officer moved to the location with security personnel after receiving information that track materials were being vandalised at the currently inactive siding.
The NRC said a search of the area led to the recovery of the cylinders. It also said officers of the NSCDC Railway Command secured the affected materials after the attempted theft was stopped.
The NRC management thanked the NSCDC and members of the public for acting quickly, and urged communities near railway assets to report suspicious movement around the tracks.
