NPFL: Enugu Rangers Topple Enyimba to Go Top of the Table
Enugu Rangers have reminded everyone why they are the “Flying Antelopes,” clawing back from a goal down to beat Enyimba 2-1 in a high-stakes Southeast derby at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium.
A Silent Stadium, A Loud Result
The match was played behind closed doors due to NPFL sanctions, meaning the atmosphere was eerie and the stands were empty. But the tension was still thick. Enyimba actually took the lead just four minutes after the second half started, with Wonah Williams scoring a goal that would have normally silenced a roaring crowd.
Rangers didn’t panic. They stayed composed and hit back. Chidozie Iwundu levelled the score with his ninth goal of the season, before Ideanyi Onyebuchi scored the winner. It was a poetic reversal of the 2-1 scoreline Enyimba had handed them back in November 2025.
Race for the Title
With only three games left in the 2025-26 season, this win puts Rangers at the top of the table with 59 points. They’ve now put themselves in the driver’s seat for the league title. For Enyimba, it’s a disaster. They remain 13th, still fighting to avoid relegation, and now they have to watch their bitter rivals potentially lift the trophy.
Rangers proved they can win without the crowd. If they can perform like this in an empty stadium, the final stretch of the season should be a walk in the park for them.
