Nigerian Bishop Shot Dead In South Africa

A Nigerian cleric, Bishop Taiwo Michael Fakunle, has been shot dead in Johannesburg, South Africa.

The Nigerian Citizens Association South Africa said Fakunle, 58, was killed at his residence in Kensington, Johannesburg, on Friday, September 4, 2026.

Channels Television reported that NICASA called for an urgent investigation into the killing. Daily Post also reported the death and identified Fakunle as an indigene of Iye in Ilejemeje Local Government Area of Ekiti State.

NICASA said two unknown people gained access to the cleric’s home and shot him multiple times. The association asked South African authorities to ensure justice in the case.

The reports did not announce any arrest at the time of publication.
