The Nigerian Army says its official X account was targeted by an attempted unauthorised access, the second reported breach involving a Nigerian military social media account in about two weeks.

The account began posting memecoin-related updates on Saturday before the incident was flagged as a cybersecurity problem. The Army said technical and protective measures were activated to secure the handle and restore exclusive administrative control.

Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Appolonia Anele, advised the public to ignore suspicious or unauthorised content from the account and to confirm information through the Army’s verified communication channels.

TheCable reported observing the unusual posts from the Army account, while Vanguard reported the Army’s statement and the link to a recent similar breach involving another military-linked account.

The episode adds to concerns over the security of official public-information channels, especially accounts used by security agencies to issue urgent statements and operational updates.
