Nigerian Army Rescues Woman and Six-Month-Old Baby Kidnapped by Terrorists in Kogi State
Troops of the Nigerian Army have rescued a woman and her six-month-old baby who were kidnapped during a terrorist attack on a community in Kogi State, the military confirmed on Thursday.
The victims — Mrs. Idowu Kemi Titilayo and her infant — were abducted during a raid on Ijalu in Egbe, Yagba West Local Government Area on Wednesday evening. Suspected terrorists invaded a residence near Solid Rock School and seized five family members.
Soldiers from the 12 Brigade, working with the Vigilante Group of Nigeria, launched a swift pursuit along the attackers’ escape route. The pressure forced the kidnappers to abandon the woman and her baby near the Oro axis before fleeing into nearby bushes.
The rescued victims were safely returned to their residence. Three other relatives remain unaccounted for, and search operations are ongoing to rescue the remaining abductees and arrest the perpetrators.
The rescue is a rare positive development in a region that has seen a surge in terrorist activity targeting rural communities. Egbe and surrounding areas in Yagba West LGA have become recurring targets for armed groups operating in the North-Central corridor.
