Nigeria has condemned the Houthi attack on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and called for restraint to prevent further harm to civilians and civilian infrastructure.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the attack reportedly killed 12 civilians and injured more than 300 people.
Ministry spokesperson Oluwafemi Adeniyi described the attack as a dangerous escalation that violated Saudi Arabia’s sovereignty and undermined efforts to restore peace and security in the Middle East.
Nigeria urged all parties to respect international law and avoid further action that could escalate tensions, endanger civilians or damage infrastructure. It expressed solidarity with Saudi Arabia, offered condolences to the families of those killed and wished the injured a full recovery.
The condemnation came as the airport faced another attack on Sunday. Saudi authorities said a projectile struck the facility, caused a fire and left people injured. The Houthis claimed multiple attacks within the preceding 24 hours and warned against using Saudi airports.
The Nigerian ministry commended Saudi Arabia’s emergency response and reiterated the need to protect civilian lives and critical infrastructure. It reaffirmed support for diplomatic initiatives and dialogue aimed at reducing tensions.
