Mutfwang Orders Security Agencies To Tackle Plateau Attacks

Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has ordered security agencies to tighten intelligence gathering and preventive operations after another review of attacks and killings in the state.

The order followed a State Security Council meeting at the New Government House, Little Rayfield, Jos, where officials discussed recent attacks, arrests and emerging threats across Plateau communities.

Police Commissioner Ayodeji Faniyan said suspects had been arrested over some of the major attacks recorded in the state in the past month, while investigations were continuing to find others linked to the violence.

The meeting also reviewed inter-agency cooperation, intelligence sharing and measures to protect residents, visitors, property and economic activity. Security chiefs, the deputy governor, traditional leaders and senior government officials attended.

The latest review came after deadly attacks in Mangu and Riyom. Premium Times reported that the Mangu attack in August killed at least 24 people, while Daily Trust and Channels TV reported that the police linked the council meeting to the wider push to stop fresh violence.

For communities that have faced repeated attacks, the test will be whether the new orders lead to quicker arrests, better patrols and fewer openings for armed groups to strike.
