The military says an airstrike in Borno State killed more than 40 Islamic State West Africa Province fighters, including a commander, on October 10.
The strike targeted a building at Badu Village, south of Gudumbali in Guzamala Local Government Area. The military said the fighters had gathered to prepare coordinated attacks on troops in Sector 3 of Operation Hadin Kai.
Captain Mohammed Goni, the operation’s military information officer, announced the result in a statement on Monday. He said aerial surveillance had identified movements around suspected hideouts and logistics facilities before the Air Component struck the building.
Goni said the reported death toll was based on preliminary intelligence and an assessment of damage after the strike. The figure remains a military account, rather than an independently established casualty count.
According to the statement, the operation also destroyed two vehicles and approximately 20 motorcycles used for transport, logistics and attacks. Goni said the fighters belonged to ISWAP’s Murabitun unit, which he described as a mobile force involved in patrols and coordinated attacks in the area.
The military said further assessment was continuing to establish the full extent of the damage.
