MainPower Electricity Distribution Company says a substation explosion caused the power outage affecting parts of Enugu metropolis.

The company said the explosion happened at about 7:30 p.m. at its injection substation in Gariki and affected the indoor 11kV breaker.

Spokesperson Emeka Ezeh listed affected areas to include Gariki Market, Mayor Market, Roban Stores on Agbani Road, Crunchies, Mobile Police Barracks, Amechi Road, Upper Mount and several other streets and communities.

MainPower said its technical team had begun assessing the damaged equipment and had started restoration work.
