FG and DisCos plan 24-hour power supply zones
The Federal Government and electricity distribution companies have begun talks on proposed zones that would receive 24-hour power supply.
The plan targets high-demand areas in the Lagos axis, Abuja-Kaduna-Kano corridor and Enugu-Port Harcourt corridor, according to reports on the meeting. Those corridors were listed as the first focus areas.
Power Minister Joseph Tegbe met selected DisCo leaders to discuss the proposed Energy Zones. Punch reported that the initiative is aimed at homes, businesses and industries in major demand centres.
The meeting was disclosed in a statement by the minister’s media aide, Adeola Adelabu. The statement said the talks were part of efforts to deliver more reliable electricity to Nigerians in areas where demand is high.
Vanguard also reported the same 24/7 power supply plan between the Federal Government and DisCos.
The proposal is still at the engagement stage, with the government and the distribution companies discussing how the zones would work before any rollout.
