Maduka Okoye Makes Serie A Team of the Week After Udinese 3-0 Win Over AC Milan
Maduka Okoye has been named in the Serie A Team of the Week for gameweek 32 after a composed performance that helped Udinese dismantled AC Milan 3-0.
The 26-year-old goalkeeper was one of six keepers to record a clean sheet in the round, but his showing against Milan stood out. Calm, commanding, and largely untroubled — the kind of display that makes selectors sit up and take notice.
Three straight shutouts
Okoye’s Team of the Week inclusion is the latest marker of a strong season. He now has eight clean sheets in 24 Serie A appearances, and the Milan result made it three consecutive shutouts for the first time since he joined Udinese in 2023. He lined up alongside Robin Gosens, Denzel Dumfries, Scott McTominay, and Donyell Malen in the weekly best XI.
The form is timely. Okoye featured for Nigeria in the March international window, playing in a 2-1 friendly win over Iran before a thigh injury ruled him out of the draw with Jordan.
Super Eagles competition heats up
“I was so pleased to be called up to the national team,” Okoye said on Udinese Tonight. “It’s important to me as a player and as a person. I want to return many more times.”
With 19 caps since his 2019 debut against Brazil, Okoye is pushing hard for the number one shirt. The competition is real — Arthur Okonkwo’s FIFA switch to Nigeria has added another serious option, and Stanley Nwabali is expected back in regular club action soon. Three goalkeepers, one starting spot.
But Okoye’s trajectory right now is hard to ignore. Serie A Team of the Week recognition and consistent performances in one of Europe’s top leagues make a compelling case.
