Lightning Strike Kills Six Children, Injures Four In Adamawa Village
Six children have died and four other people were injured after lightning struck Dadiri-Tirgali village in Ganye Local Government Area of Adamawa State during a heavy downpour.
Daily Trust reported that the strike happened on Sunday, July 19, 2026, while the victims were harvesting groundnuts. The injured survivors were taken to General Hospital Ganye for treatment.
The dead were named by Daily Trust as Abdulrahman Musa, 7; Aliyu Sule Maunde, 10; Jaafar Sule Maunde, 10; Bilkisu Jibrin Maunde, 20; Musa Ahmadu, 9; and Auwalu Nuhu, 11.
The injured were listed as Nasiru Abubakar, 7; Rilwanu Ahmadu, 9; Saadatu Isa, 35; and Hasiya Isa, aged one year and three months. Council chairman Daniel Kamsobbi said a mother and child had been discharged after examination, while two others remained in hospital.
Daily Post also reported that six children died in Dadiri Tirgali, saying they were struck while working on a farm. It said Christopher Nathaniel, the Adamawa SDP governorship candidate, sent condolences to the bereaved families and the Ganye community.
Kamsobbi said police and other security officials had been asked to investigate the incident so the council could decide how best to sensitise residents, many of whom are farmers.
