Collapsed mud walls and debris after rain damage in Jigawa

Two children have died after heavy rain damaged homes in Gandun Sarki community, Malam Madori Local Government Area of Jigawa State.

The downpour, which hit parts of Hadejia Senatorial District, caused a house to collapse while children were asleep inside, according to reports from the area.

Daily Trust reported that the children were aged five and eight and that several people were injured after the rain lasted for more than an hour. Some affected women were taken to Hadejia General Hospital for treatment.

Punch reported the same Gandun Sarki incident, saying the rain damaged homes and farmlands and left dozens of residents displaced. The report also identified Malam Madori as the affected local government area.

Residents appealed for urgent help after more than 20 houses were reported to have collapsed or been flooded. The village head, Jamilu Bulama, said names of affected residents were being compiled so authorities could assess the damage.

The deaths add to the human cost of seasonal flooding and building collapses in communities where many homes are vulnerable to intense rain.
