The Lagos Waste Management Authority has withdrawn the operating licences of six private waste collection operators over concerns about service capacity in their assigned communities.

LAWMA said K-HS Integrated Services voluntarily withdrew from its service area, while the other five operators had their licences terminated. The affected areas span Igbogbo-Baiyeku, Olorunda, Ojo, Orile Agege, Ajeromi-Ifelodun and Ojodu.

Managing Director Muyiwa Gbadegesin announced the decision on Tuesday during a management briefing at LAWMA’s headquarters in Ijora-Olopa. He said operators must have the capacity to provide reliable waste collection and that regulatory action was necessary where they fell short.

K-HS Integrated Services, formerly Gboleybos Nigeria Limited, served Ward C1, Slot A, Abosan in Igbogbo-Baiyeku. Deshasat Enterprises served Ibereko (LIMCA) in Olorunda, while Bailas Nigeria Company covered Sabo Oniba in Ojo.

The other affected operators were Guestimate Environmental Protection Company in Papa Ashafa II, Orile Agege; Evabol Ventures in Oluwa 1, Ajeromi-Ifelodun; and Korad Closet Empire Limited in Oke-Ira/Powerline, Ojodu.

Gbadegesin said LAWMA was seeking stronger performance standards, better service coverage and closer oversight of the private waste collection system.

He assured residents that arrangements would be made to keep waste collection running in the affected communities and urged them to continue using approved waste disposal channels.
