Lagos Gas Tanker Fire Contained On Ikorodu Road, No Casualties Reported
A mini gas tanker fire on the Owode-Elede corridor inward Ikorodu, Lagos, was contained on Friday after emergency responders moved in before the incident could spread.
Vanguard and Daily Trust reported that the tanker developed a mechanical fault while travelling inward Ikorodu, leading to a compressed gas leak that later ignited around the vehicle. No casualties were reported as of filing time.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority and the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service responded to the scene. LASTMA’s General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, said the agencies’ coordinated response prevented what could have become a major inferno affecting lives, property and road infrastructure.
Daily Trust reported that the vehicle was a six-tyre mini gas tanker. Vanguard said LASTMA’s Rescue and Recovery Team was deployed to evacuate the affected vehicle from the road.
Traffic was diverted through one serviceable lane and the Bus Rapid Transit corridor to keep vehicles moving while responders worked at the scene.
