Kogi Security Forces Recover 1,000 Rustled Livestock From Bandit Network

Security forces in Kogi State have recovered about 1,000 rustled livestock in an operation targeting cattle-rustling syndicates in the state and the wider North-Central region.

The operation involved the Kogi State Government, the 12 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Hybrid Forces from the Office of the National Security Adviser, the Department of State Services, police, vigilantes and local hunters.

The recovered animals included livestock traced to the criminal network of late bandit kingpin Kachalla Ibrahim Battijo. Officials said the recovery formed part of a wider push against bandit-linked cattle theft and the movement of stolen animals through criminal routes.

The state said the operation showed improved cooperation between federal security formations and local security structures. It also framed the recovery as part of broader efforts to disrupt armed groups that use rustled livestock as a source of funding.

Authorities said follow-up operations would continue as security teams work to return stolen animals, identify collaborators and dismantle the networks behind cattle rustling in affected communities.
