Kogi Says Principal, NECO Official And Two Students Rescued After School Attack

Kogi State says the school principal, a NECO official and two students abducted during an attack on Government Secondary School, Odo-Ekina, have been rescued.

The rescue gives a new turn to the school attack earlier reported by NaijaTrend here, when gunmen invaded the school in Dekina Local Government Area while students were writing a NECO examination.

Kogi Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Fanwo, said the victims regained freedom after sustained pressure from security operatives in the forest. He said the rescued victims were safe, in the custody of security agencies, and undergoing debriefing and medical checks.

Fanwo said Governor Usman Ododo had directed the State Security Adviser, Jerry Omodara, to coordinate the operation shortly after the abduction. The commissioner added that security operatives were still combing the forest and that the state government wanted the attackers arrested.

The earlier attack involved four students, the school principal and an ad hoc NECO official. Police had said one student was rescued before the latest announcement by the state government.
