Taraba State Governor Agbu Kefas

Taraba State Governor Agbu Kefas has dissolved existing anti-illegal mining committees and approved a new task force to enforce the state government’s directives against illegal mining and forest destruction.

The new eight-member team is to be led by Major A.M. Ghali, with Captain K.R. Odenusi as second-in-command. Other named members include ASP Ishaku Daniel, Iziogo Philip, Olakunde D., Kabiru Musa, Zibai Ayuba and Suleiman Daniel.

The government said the task force would work with operational personnel from security agencies and collaborate with the mobile court set up under existing executive orders. It is also expected to submit periodic reports through the Office of the Secretary to the State Government.

The change follows renewed enforcement action against illegal mining in Taraba, including the shutdown of an alleged gold and diamond mining site at Garin Jatau near Iware in Ardo-Kola Local Government Area.
