Taraba State Governor Agbu Kefas has extended Karim Lamido Local Government Area’s designation as an area of special security concern for six months following the attack on Binnari.

Kefas announced the decision at a security meeting at T.Y. Danjuma House in Jalingo on Monday. He said it was intended to sustain operations against violence in the area.

The governor directed authorities to account for missing people, establish the identities of those still unknown and support affected families. He also asked security agencies to coordinate protection for Binnari and nearby communities.

Agencies were instructed to investigate the attackers’ movements and possible links to other criminal activity, and to identify and apprehend those responsible.

Karim Lamido was first given the special designation in January through Executive Order No. 1, according to Premium Times. Kefas said the extension targeted security challenges and should not be treated as a negative label against residents, Daily Post reported.

The decision follows the 23 October attack and the delivery of relief to affected residents. Police initially confirmed 10 deaths, while community accounts gave higher figures.

Kefas said security measures would be accompanied by infrastructure and development support, but the reports did not give a timetable for those projects.
