KASU VC Rejects ASUU Claim That Over 200 Lecturers Resigned

Kaduna State University has pushed back against ASUU’s claim that more than 200 lecturers, including professors, have resigned because of poor working conditions.

Vice Chancellor Abdullahi Musa said on Tuesday that the figure was not supported by the university’s records. He described the claim as misleading and said it should be disregarded.

The response follows an earlier KASU labour dispute report on NaijaTrend here, where the union raised concerns over resignations and threatened industrial action.

Musa said the Kaduna State Government had taken steps to improve staff welfare and settle inherited obligations. Premium Times reported him as saying more than ₦800 million had been released for staff welfare over three years, while ₦146 million was used to clear withheld salaries and outstanding SIWES allowances.

Daily Post also reported the vice chancellor as saying the government had invested more than ₦300 million in accreditation for over 57 academic programmes and resource-verification exercises for 60 postgraduate programmes by the National Universities Commission.

The dispute now turns on two competing accounts: ASUU’s warning about staff exits and welfare, and the university management’s insistence that the resignation figure has been overstated.
