Kano Senator Rufai Hanga Resigns From NDC

Kano Central Senator Rufai Hanga has resigned from the Nigeria Democratic Congress, adding fresh weight to weeks of speculation about his next political move.

Hanga communicated the decision in a letter dated August 3 and addressed to the party chairman in Dakata Ward. He thanked ward officials and party members for their support, but said he was withdrawing from the party after personal reflection.

The resignation comes after public talk that Hanga may move to the All Progressives Congress. The report said the senator had recently been linked with meetings involving senior APC figures, including Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin and party leaders in Kano.

Hanga represents Kano Central in the Senate. His exit gives the NDC another political test in Kano, where party leaders had already been trying to keep prominent figures from leaving before the 2027 election cycle gathers pace.
