A Kano State High Court has sentenced Shuaibu Abdulkadir to death by hanging after finding him guilty of killing a pregnant woman in Kano.

The judgment was delivered on Friday by Justice Farida Rabiu-Danbappa, who held that prosecutors had proved the culpable homicide charge beyond reasonable doubt.

Daily Post identified the victim as 22-year-old Rumaisa Shuaibu, while Premium Times, citing the News Agency of Nigeria, gave her age as 23 and named her as Rumasa’u Shuaibu. Both reports said Abdulkadir was convicted over the same Kano killing.

Premium Times reported that the offence happened on April 6, 2025, at Farawa Quarters, Kano. Daily Post said Abdulkadir, a resident of Farawa in Kumbotso Local Government Area, was arraigned before the court on August 23, 2025.

The prosecution led evidence from witnesses including the victim’s husband, the defendant’s fiancée and the investigating police officer. Daily Post reported that exhibits included a video of the incident, a flash drive, a written confession, transcripts, photographs and the knife allegedly used in the killing.

The court told Abdulkadir he had 90 days to appeal the judgment.
