Iyabo Obasanjo Quits APC, Cites Disrespect and Flawed Consensus Ticket

Former Ogun Central senator Iyabo Obasanjo has resigned from the All Progressives Congress, saying she was pushed out by the way the party handled its Ogun governorship process and treated her supporters.

In a letter dated May 31, 2026 and made public on Monday, Obasanjo said the “persistent disrespect, rejection and unfair treatment” she faced from the Ogun APC leadership left her with no reason to stay.

Resignation Reopens Ogun APC Fault Lines

Punch reported that Obasanjo said she had agreed to any genuine consensus arrangement but was not consulted before Senator Solomon Adeola, known as Yayi, emerged as the party’s governorship candidate. Independent also reported that she linked her exit to political marginalisation after the consensus process.

Her resignation is the sharpest public fallout yet from the Ogun APC race, which had already triggered complaints from some aspirants after the party settled on a consensus ticket in April.

Fresh Questions Ahead of 2027

Obasanjo only joined the APC this year after returning to frontline politics in Ogun. Her exit now raises new questions about how much unity the party can project in the state as the 2027 election cycle gathers pace.

She has not announced her next political move.
